Alternate Assessments for the CCSS
 
What are the implications of the CCSS for students with significant cognitive disabilities who participate in alternate assessments based on alternate achievement standards (AA-AAS), and their teachers? What policy and practice changes will be required to ensure that these students with severe disabilities benefit from CCSS and the alternate assessments that measure their learning? Representatives of the two major consortia now developing alternate assessments will discuss their approaches and the resources and supports that will be available to students and teachers. Emphasis will be placed on key next steps for special educators for ensuring that all students who participate in AA-AAS can first learn and then show what they know in the CCSS.
